All You Need To Know About Graffiti Art

"Graffiti" has been applied in art history to work of art to be produced by scratching a design into a surface. Graffiti is an art of writing or drawings that have been scribbled or painted, amazingly on a wall or other surface. It is done often within public view. Graffiti can also be analyzed according to the elements of lines, color, and structures that are present in the work.

Graffiti basically refers to imaginary decoration applied by paint or other means to buildings, public transport or other property

Its Origin –

Graffiti has been found on ancient, Egyptian monuments. So, the origins of graffiti go back to the beginnings of human, societal living. Graffiti is the plural form of the Italian word grafficar. Grafficar indicates drawings, markings, patterns, scribbles, or messages that are painted, written, or carved on a wall or surface.

Famous Graffiti Artists –

Lee -   His amazingly inspiring pieces have given him the title of the most influential graffiti artist ever. Lee painted whole cars. He showed the world what was possible in terms of artistic ability.

Blade - Blade is known for the great experimental concepts of his whole case and the sheer quantity of trains he has painted. We can clearly see in his work that his inspiration truly came from within.

Seen – He is known as ‘the Godfather of Graffiti’. Seen has used various mediums throughout his career, including canvas, 3D sculpture and tattoos.

Revok - Revok has painted Los Angeles consistently since 1991, and as a consequence has received a lot of negative attention from the city’s Sheriff’s Department but still he continued his artistic work with full passion.

How to do Graffiti Art -
Tagging -     It refers to the tag or signature of a surface. Refer to the simple act of applying a "tag" or signature to a surface. These tags can be calligraphic in appearance. It can be complex in contents also.

Throw–up –   There is limit of colors in this technique, no more than two or three colors. This one is larger than a "tag" and painted very rapidly.

Stencil graffiti -   Rapid creation of complex shapes using cut outs.

Top-to-bottoms - It became popular among New York subway graffiti artists    during the 1970s. This type of graffiti art can cover an entire subway car.

Roller -   Often performed with a paint-roller and executed simply to cover a large area in order to stop other graffiti sprayers from painting on the same wall.

Wild Style -   It is basically marked by interlocking letters and connecting points. It can create a more complex "tag" or image.

Break dancing was originated in the early 1970s in Puerto Rican and African-American communities. Break dancing is a tool for self-expression, creating visual art, and it has even developed into an international sport. Break-dance is a type of dance that is basically done by people who are part of the hip hop culture.  Break-dance is also called breaking, b-boying or b-Girling. Break dancing uses different body movements on the rhythm of hip hop music. Body movements are like spins, arm movements, leg movements, etc. Nowadays, a number of break dancing games for boys are available. One motion break dance is getting more and more attention day by day. Break dancing for beginners can be a little bit hard, but as we all know, practice makes a man perfect. Beginners should start with picking best break-dance music with a steady rhythm and a flow that you can feel. The most important aspect of the music is that you feel inspired and energized by it. Choose the best break-dance songs ever. The musical selection for breaking is not restricted to hip-hop music only, as long as the tempo and beat pattern conditions are met.

The categories of break dancing involve the following –

1. Toprock - Toprock refers to foot movement that is performed from a standing position. Toprock is a major element of b-boying and b-Girling that relies upon a mixture of flexibility, rhythm, and most importantly, style.

2. Downrock - Downrock refers to the movements performed on the floor. To execute downrock smoothly requires flexible joints and a relaxed body.

3. Freezes - A freeze is a very unique technique of break dancing. Under freeze category, a dancer suddenly stops, usually in an interesting or balance-intensive position. Dancers twist their body into a very difficult and stylish position, which also comes under the freeze. Many of moves come from gymnastics and kung-fu.

The tradition of dance battles –

Classical dancers, break and hip-hop dancers compete for a maximum of 5 minutes each. Basically, it is called 'freestyle solo dance battle', that means there is no fixed style. A Dance Battle is all about winning the crowd. One of the biggest break-dance contests in the world is Battle of the Year (BOTY). Different types of contests are there, it can be one-on-one battles, team battle and so on. The best b-boy is the one, who has difficulty of their skills.
